Raw eggs, like uncooked poultry, have a chance of carrying salmonella, which can cause a moderately serious illness that'll leave you puking and shitting for about two weeks straight. While not usually fatal, it's pretty awful to deal with, and avoiding eating raw eggs is a sensible way to prevent contracting it.
